Tim had worked as a motorcycle mechanic and photographer in the past. He had mostly taken pictures at weddings at the time. He worked from January 2008 to January 2017 under Tim Dodd Photography. The same year he ended his photography career, Tim founded Everyday Astronaut in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

During his photography stint, Tim photographed for Spaceflight Now working on several projects such as SpaceX’s CRS-3 cargo mission to the International Space Station on April 18, 2014. Then for NASA’s Orion Test Flight EFT-1 on December 5, 2014, the United States Air Force’s GPS 2F-9 launch, and NASA’s OA-6 Mission on March 23, 2016.

Dodd was chosen to be selected to participate in a lunar spaceflight as part of the dearMoon project crew in 2022. It was scheduled to take place aboard the SpaceX Starship.
