Josh Inglis Facts

Born and brought up in Leeds, England, Josh moved to Australia, with his family, when he was about 14 years old.

Although he began representing Western Australia on the Australian domestic scene in the 2016-17 season, his maiden first-class century came as late as October 2020, in the opening round of the 2020–21 season of the Sheffield Shield (the premier domestic first-class cricket competition in Australia) – a score of 153 runs not out against South Australia.

The season proved to be a breakthrough of sorts for him in first-class cricket. He ended up with 585 runs in the season which included his first three first-class hundreds.

This was accompanied by successive seasons in the BBL where he had scored at least 400 runs (405 runs in 14 innings in the 2019-20 season; 413 runs in 16 innings in the 2020-21 season). More than all those runs, though, what impressed the national selectors the most was the adaptability he showed while batting in different positions.

In August 2021, he was a surprise inclusion in Australia’s squad for the 2021 ICC (International Cricket Council) World T20. It was his maiden call-up to the senior national team. Josh, however, could not break into the team’s playing XI in any of Australia’s matches in the tournament, with incumbent wicketkeeper Matthew Wade holding his place.

Australia went on to win that tournament (for the first time ever) and Josh had to wait until February 2022 to make his T20I (and international) debut for Australia. For the subsequent edition of the tournament, to be held in Australia in October and November 2022, Josh was again picked in Australia’s squad, again as the reserve wicketkeeper.

He has a pet cat called Obie.

Outside of cricket, he keenly follows soccer, rugby, and Australian rules football.
